The quota - apply early
New Zealand sets an annual quota for Working Holiday visas from each country. For Nigerian applicants, the quota is limited. The quota year typically opens in July.
What this means: Once the quota is filled, no more applications are accepted until the next quota year. If you want a New Zealand Working Holiday Visa, apply as soon as the quota opens - do not wait.
What you can do on the visa
Work: Any job, any employer, any industry. No restriction on type of work.
Study: Up to 3 months of study.
Travel: Travel freely in and out of New Zealand during the 12-month validity.
Earn: New Zealand's minimum wage is NZD 23.15/hour (2026). Working full-time at minimum wage earns approximately NZD 3,700/month before tax.
Extending to 24 months
Complete 3 months of work in the horticulture or viticulture industry in a recognised seasonal employer region during your first visa. This makes you eligible for a second 12-month Working Holiday Visa.
