What you can do on the authorisation

Work: Any job, any employer, any industry. No restriction on type of work.

Study: Up to 3 months of study.

Travel: Travel freely in and out of Ireland during the 12-month validity.

Earn: Ireland's minimum wage is EUR 13.50/hour from January 2026. Working full-time earns approximately EUR 2,160/month before tax - one of the highest minimum wages in the EU.

The pathway to longer-term work

The Working Holiday Authorisation is 12 months. But it can be a stepping stone:

Critical Skills Employment Permit: If you find a job in a critical skills occupation (IT, healthcare, engineering, finance) paying EUR 38,000+/year, you can apply for a Critical Skills permit before your authorisation expires. This leads to Stamp 4 (permanent residence eligibility) after 2 years.

General Employment Permit: For jobs paying EUR 34,000+/year in non-critical skills occupations.
