Luxembourg is a small, wealthy country at the heart of the EU with a highly international workforce. It has two publishable pathways for Nigerian applicants: a student stay authorisation and a salaried worker authorisation. Both are administered via the Guichet.lu portal.

Student stay authorisation

Requirements: Enrolment or admission offer at a recognised Luxembourg educational institution, valid passport, proof of sufficient financial means, health insurance.

No published minimum funds threshold: Luxembourg does not publish a single fixed living funds figure. The immigration authority assesses whether you have sufficient means for the duration of your studies.

Processing time: 2-3 months.

Work rights: Students may work part-time alongside their studies — check current rules with the immigration authority.

Salaried worker authorisation

Requirements: Job offer from a Luxembourg employer. The employer must complete an ADEM vacancy declaration (declaring the vacancy to the national employment agency) unless an exemption applies. The job must meet the minimum wage requirements for the sector.

Minimum wage: Luxembourg has one of the highest minimum wages in the EU — EUR 2,570.93/month gross (2026 figure). Most skilled positions pay significantly above this.

Processing time: 2-3 months.

Path to PR: After 5 years of continuous legal residence in Luxembourg.
