France Visa from Nigeria: The 2026 Reality Check

Evidence status

Approval rates by nationality are not published by the French consular authorities and are not shown here. All requirements below are sourced from france-visas.gouv.fr with effective dates.

What is available

Two publishable pathways in the MyPathway2Global registry:

Pathway Type Status
Long-stay study visa Study Publishable
Talent Passport Work Publishable

Long-stay study visa (visa de long séjour étudiant)

Official source: france-visas.gouv.fr — Student

Core requirements

Admission offer: A letter of acceptance from a recognised French educational institution is required. For courses over 3 months, a long-stay visa (D visa) is required before travel.

Campus France procedure: Nigerian applicants must complete the Campus France pre-application procedure before submitting a visa application. This is a mandatory step — the visa application cannot proceed without it.

Minimum funds (from 1 August 2026):

Requirement Amount Currency Period
Proof of resources 877.50 EUR per month

Source: france-visas.gouv.fr, effective 2026-08-01. This is the minimum for long-stay study applications submitted from 1 August 2026. Tuition fees are separate.

Campus France Nigeria

Campus France manages the pre-application process for Nigerian students. The procedure involves an interview and document review before the visa application is submitted to the consulate.

Allow additional lead time for the Campus France step — it runs before the consulate appointment, not in parallel.

Talent Passport (Passeport Talent)

Official source: france-visas.gouv.fr — Talent Passport

The Talent Passport covers several sub-categories including the EU Blue Card, highly qualified employees, researchers, and company founders. The most commonly applicable sub-category for Nigerian professionals is the highly qualified employee route.

Core requirements

Job offer: A confirmed employment contract from a French employer is required.

Minimum annual salary (EU Blue Card sub-category, from 21 August 2025):

Requirement Amount Currency Period
Minimum gross salary 59,373 EUR annual

Source: france-visas.gouv.fr, effective 2025-08-21. The EU Blue Card sub-category requires at least 1.5 times the gross reference salary. This is the job offer salary threshold, not a personal funds requirement.

What is not published

  • Approval rates by nationality
  • Processing times by nationality (the consulate publishes general guidance, not nationality-specific data)

Key planning considerations

Campus France is mandatory for students: This adds time to the process. Start the Campus France procedure well before your intended application date — do not treat it as a parallel step.

EUR/NGN exchange rate: The monthly funds threshold (EUR 877.50) and the Talent Passport salary threshold (EUR 59,373/year) are significant. Confirm current NGN equivalents with your bank.

Talent Passport salary threshold: EUR 59,373 gross per year is a high bar. This pathway is designed for senior professionals with confirmed French employer offers, not job seekers.

Language: Most undergraduate programmes are taught in French. English-taught Master's programmes exist but are fewer than in Germany or the Netherlands. Confirm the language of instruction before applying.

What this audit does not cover

Visitor visas, working holiday arrangements, and other Talent Passport sub-categories (researcher, company founder, investor) are not currently in the evidence registry.
